Q

Will you do another Christmas album?

Vanessa Peters responded on 11/11/2012
A

Yes eventually! Maybe an EP... but not this year. :)

Q

Outside the USA, which country did you enjoy performing in the most?

Vanessa Peters responded on 11/11/2012
A

Tough question... I'm probably torn between the NL/DE/BE area and Italy. I have a lot of fans in Italy and I love the people there, and there's a genuine sense of appreciation for the fact that we came so far to play for them. Folks in the Netherlands get far more American singer/songwriters than Italians do (the venues are better suited for it, or more actively pursue that kind of program), and so they can be a bit harder to win over... but once you have, I feel like you have loyal listeners and fans for life. They are both very different places to tour but each really rewarding in their own way.

Q

Which guitar strings would you recommend for an acoustic guitar that lives in Texas? Thanks!

Vanessa Peters responded on 11/06/2012
A

I have always played with Elixir, in part because I'm lazy and I really hate to change strings, but mostly just because they sounded really great on my old guitar. I used the polyweb (the nanoweb was too bright for me) and I used medium weight strings. Lately I've moved down to light-mediums, but I still like the Elixirs. I would assume the coated strings hold up better in high humidity but that's purely an assumption on my part. :)

Eventually but not this year!

Q

Are you coming over to Holland again to eat Appeltaart ?

Vanessa Peters responded on 10/29/2012
A

I really hope so! Right now the plan is to do a tour in March 2013. We need more shows though! If anyone wants to do a house concert, please let me know! :)
Groetjes!! - v

Q

Do you do covers? I sing I play guitar, wait... this was a question. Do you write all your own songs? Just send me email and let me know where to listen to your music and even buy it ;-)

Vanessa Peters responded on 09/17/2012
A

Yes, I write all my own songs... but I think next year I'm going to make a covers record. I've wanted to for years and I think the time is finally here.

You can find my music at bandcamp - vanessapeters.bandcamp.com - or on iTunes, Amazon, CD Baby, and just about every other online retailer. Bandcamp is the fairest slice of the pie for me though. :)

Q

What should I have for lunch?

Vanessa Peters responded on 09/17/2012
A

I'm making a salad with tomatoes, mozzarella, tuna, olives, capers, rucola, and lettuce. You're welcome to join me if you're in the neighborhood. :)

Q

When and how did you learn to play guitar? And why? Was it by being inspired by other musicians or was it a means to express yourself?

Vanessa Peters responded on 08/07/2012
A

I taught myself by learning cover songs. I bought a guitar in college but didn't really have time for it until I graduated. I was living in Italy in the summer of 2001, and the town I was living in was DEAD in August (like all small towns in Italy :) and so I entertained myself by practicing guitar. I was alone for almost the entire month, just me and my guitar... it was kind of meditative. No Facebook, email, Twitter, no roommates or boyfriends or anything.... just me and my guitar.

I had always wanted to learn, and I think I finally did because I wanted to start writing songs. Like you said - it was a means to express myself. I had always written short stories and poems, but I wanted to set them to music (I've always loved to sing), so learning guitar seemed to be the logical next step. I'm still not a great guitar player - I could stand to take a lesson or twenty - but I guess b/c I'm self-taught, I have my own style.
